A senior spokesman for the Ministry of Finance told the country that duty free vehicle licenses will be issued to newly elected Members of Parliament soon. The first duty free vehicle licenses will be issued to the first 79 members of Parliament. It is reported that these licenses will be issued to all other members within a few weeks.
Under the tariff concession license system, each member is entitled to a license with a tax concession of around Rs. 65 lakhs. The spokesman further said that vehicles imported into the country can be purchased with these licenses when the import ban is lifted or in the future as the import of vehicles has been stopped.
At the same time, the licenses will be issued to the duty free vehicle license holders of the public service. Public servants can purchase a vehicle under those licenses subject to a tax relief of Rs. 3.6 million.
