A Singaporean company is at risk of receiving compensation for rescuing a fuel tanker that caught fire in the East Sea near Ampara, said Merchant Naval Captain Isharaka Perera.

He has told a weekend newspaper that the Sri Lankan government should take immediate legal action to recover the money due to Sri Lanka for intervening to rescue the fuel tanker from the fire.

Although the Sri Lankan government has been working hard to put out the fuel tanker fire, there is a risk that a Singaporean company could claim compensation for coming as a savior, the report said.
