Two explosions have occurred on the New Diamond fuel tanker which caught fire in the East Sea near Ampara, the Marine Environment Authority said.
However, no oil spill has occurred on the ship so far, said its General Manager Turney Pradeep Kumara. He also said that the ship was losing its balance due to the explosions.
The Navy is still working with the Navy to put out the fire.
The Marine Environment Authority says that if the ship’s crude oil enters the sea, it will cause the world’s largest marine environment damage.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Navy states that there is no risk of a fuel leak from this ship so far.
