The Provincial Councilors’ Forum of the Sri Lanka People’s Front has passed a resolution calling for the Provincial Council elections to be held as soon as possible. This was stated by the Chairman of the forum Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Chairman Kanchana Jayaratne.

He strongly objected to the statement made by State Minister Sarath Weerasekara that the Provincial Councils should be abolished.

He said that the statement made by the Minister of State was a personal statement and not the policy of the party which was the view of the government.

He also stated that a resolution was passed to express his displeasure over Minister Sarath Weerasekara’s statement.

He also called on the government to hold provincial council elections before the 20th amendment is presented to parliament and passed.

He made these comments at a media briefing held at the Sri Lanka People’s Front headquarters. A number of former Ministers and Provincial Councilors were also present at the media briefing.
