Minister of State for Rural Roads and Residual Infrastructure Nimal Lansa said that the focus is on building small, high quality bridges connecting the village and the city at a low cost in a short period of time.
The focus is on constructing these bridges as a solution to the village level rods and vine bridges using disposable light poles, rails and other materials. A special discussion in this regard was held with a delegation of the Engineers Association of the Sri Lanka People’s Front at the Ministry office on the 18th.
The Minister of State requested the relevant association to submit a study report in this regard. The bridges can be up to 6 feet wide and up to 36 feet long.
He hopes to implement the bridge project by protecting the environment through a new concept, especially in the most difficult villages, to bring rural products to economic centers and to facilitate the day-to-day operations of the people without interruption, he said.
